Appearance:
Jade gives of the air of a gentleman from a distinguished family. He has long brown hair that falls past his shoulders. His eyes are red in color, as the result of being 'touched' by a demon in his younger years. Jade wears rimless glasses, though he does not need it. The glasses are crafted so that Jade is able to see magical traces.

Jade's preferred choice of clothing is smart casual tailored clothing. He leans towards deep, muted colors. Ultimately, his taste in clothing tends to be a little bland as he does not liken to stand out.

Personality:
Jade seldom reveals his true emotions, preferring to hide it behind a smile. He is levelheaded and logical, seldom losing his
composure. He does not let anything compromise his self-control. He is blunt, and does not mince his words when there is a point to be made. His use of irony and sarcasm makes it hard for others to know what is on his mind. He often uses his 'old' age as an excuse to avoid physical work.

Abilities/Weaponry:
1.Weapon
Spear – This is the only weapon Jade carries around. He uses magic to disassemble the particles of his spear and merge them with the most external layer of his arms and reassembles them when he has need of his spear.

Jade uses a mixture of black and white magic, his forte falling mainly on black. All of his spells have a preparation time and the stronger they are, the more power and the longer it takes to cast. Because of this reason, Jade keeps several pre-drawn/written spells with him for an immediately casting during emergency.

2.Black Magic
Necromancy – Jade's lifelong research. He travels from city to city to learn as much as he could about it. Because of his failure in bringing back his teacher with her mental faculties, he spent years researching and learning control. He achieved his goals of creating a 'perfect' zombie, but he never tried re-resurrecting Nebilim again. His obsession with it has made people tack the moniker 'Jade the Necromancer' on him.

Indignation – Jade basically summons a gigantic bolt of lightning onto his enemies. Incantation: "I, who stand in the full light of the heavens command thee, who opens the gates of hell, come forth divine lightning! This ends now! Indignation!" [taken from canon]

3.White Magic
Wards – It usually involves a long and tedious process of drawing the spell on the area where the user wants to confine or prevent individuals leaving/entering a place. The spell will be broken if the drawing is tampered with from the outside or when the door and/or window of the place are left open.

Weaknesses:
Other than the weaknesses that inflict all Magic Users, most of Jade's spells, except for the most basic of basic (like conjuring up a small flame) require him to chant an incantation. Though it only takes seconds, but in those seconds, he is open to attack as invoking magic needs him to remain stationary for the duration of the casting. As long as he moves or attacked, his spells are cancelled. His magic is most effective if there is someone to back him up by distracting the enemies.

History:
Jade was born into the Balfour family in a small township in England. Ever since he was a child, he is widely known as a genius, understanding and creating complex formulations and theories that even adults could barely comprehend. His interest meant that he often spent his time in search of knowledge. It did not took him long to notice that the world they are living in contains more than just humans. Instead of fear, the fact that other races existed just intrigued Jade.

He was a strange child, while other children felt sad over the death of the beloved people and pets in their life, Jade faced it in a reserved manner. He sees and acts following logic and reason, trying to avoid any kind of emotional attachment. He only understood what life and death meant technically, but he never grasped the concept to appreciate it. Because of this aspect, he is often misunderstood, labeled as a 'monster' because he is not easily affected by events, be it sad or joyful events even if it involved people dear to him. His lack of understanding was even further deepened when he stumbled upon a book entitled 'The Book of the Laws of the Dead' in an old, dusty bookstore. The book's contents intrigued Jade as it imparted that the dead could be brought back alive, albeit as zombies.

Things changed when a Magic User named Gelda Nebilim retired to their small, sleepy town. More interested in learning firsthand from someone who knows magic, Jade studied under her. Her only conditions were that one; that he would never attempt to raise a zombie, and two; to never make any deal with any demons, no matter how tempting their offer was. More interested in learning other magicks at the time, Jade agreed. But his interest flared up again when they broached the subject of black magic and Professor Nebilim once again forbade him to ever touch both necromancy and summoning demons.

This time, his curiosity could not be contained and Jade tried his hand at summoning a demon. But his overconfidence that the situation was under his control proved to be his downfall. At the very moment the summoning was completed, his teacher came in, breaking the circle that he drew. As the result of her intervention, she was killed. But because of her sacrifice, Jade was saved from entering into a contract with the demon. Remorseful that his actions cost his teacher her life, Jade dedicated himself to take up her life's work of researching magicks and their effects on the body. But the call of necromancy was too great to resist, especially since it could bring back his teacher. Once again, he went against his teacher's wishes.

His first attempt into bringing back Nebilim as a zombie was a disaster. The lack of experience, preparation, and magic power meant that she came back as a mindless monster and went on a rampage in town. It was with a heavy heart that Jade sealed her in a deep cavern where she remains up till this day.

Due to the tragedy that he caused in his hometown, he decided to leave and travel to learn more about magic in other countries, he was only 19 then. He changed his name from Balfour to Curtiss, though whispers of 'Jade the Necromancer' followed him from place to place due to his ongoing obsession with necromancy. From the time he has left, Jade has yet to return to the country of his origins. He usually travels from city to city, staying for months to a maximum of 2 years before moving on to the next city.
